December Update ‘22

In St Louis, we have the privilege of enjoying 4 seasons! In fall, we typically begin experiencing frosty nights the second half of October and most vegetables need to be collected by then. So what next?

Many of the Harvest garden families have already harvested the last of the produce, and cleaned weeds out of the bed. Some have saved seeds as they plan for the next growing season. This week we saw a beautiful jar full of dried chilies and some clean squash seeds drying in the garage to use in 2023.

As we soon head into winter, it enriches the the garden to cover the soil with a blanket of compost that can naturally mix into the earth as it rains, freezes and thaws preparing the soil for Spring!
